Will Workshop - $350.00 plus GST
This is a course designed to walk you through your estate plan step by step. By the end of our four sessions, you will have more clarity on who to appoint as the Executor of your estate, how to distribute your assets, and how to deal with financial and medical decisions in the event that you lose mental capacity.
EC's Will Workshop is comprised of four sessions:
During this session, we will be discussing how to appoint the right executor for your estate, guardian for your children, and caretaker for your pets. In addition to receiving various helpful handouts, you will be provided with our 'Executor Checklist' wherein you will be able to put each potential candidate through a test, thus determining if they are the right fit for you.
For this session, we will outline all you need to know about Wills. From learning about the legal obligations that you have to family members, to discussing distribution, this session covers it all. Learn about gifting to children and charities, how to deal with property outside of Alberta, your memorandum, and more.
The third session will cover all things Power of Attorney related - including information about the document and who you should be appointing.
The fourth and final session will deal with extended care clauses, managing MAID (medical assistance in dying) legislation, information on Greensleeves, and assistance in decision making.
How does it work?
Each session will have video seminars recorded by our founding lawyer, Stacy Maurier. She will walk you through the information required for each topic. We will also be offering informational resources and handouts.
Under the 'Optional: Create Documents' category of the workshop, each participant will have the option to download an electronic estate planning handbook. This is the document that our office uses to take instructions from clients and draft testamentary documentation. Following each session, you will be able to complete the relevant section of this handbook and hopefully, make some difficult decisions.
Create Documents (Optional)
Once this handbook is completed, you can send it to our office and we will begin drafting your documents. If you would like to meet with one of our estate lawyers to discuss your handbook prior to our drafting, or if you have any questions about your specific estate plan, you may contact our office to arrange an independent meeting. Please be advised that you will be invoiced at our lawyer's hourly rate for this meeting.
Please note that the Will Workshop is independent from our office drafting your estate planning documents. In terms of pricing, we confirm that the workshop is $350.00 plus GST. If you do choose to move forward with our firm drafting your estate planning documents, this amount will be credited on your final invoice.
